When I came to New York I had my own apprehensions and questions about how things were based on my limited knowledge of the Big Apple. The first week of camp was riddled with learning the names of the kids and them getting used to the structure of camp. The second week made me go before the Lord and ask, “What are you doing?” I discovered that one of the youth was cutting herslf. It seems that due to challenges at home and pain in her life, it is a way to make herself feel better. The question I have to ask is what is going on that the adults and those around her have failed to see what was happening. I do not mean did they notice her presence. I mean to really see the person and see the pain and suffering that is being felt. Adults always say that children are resilient and they will bounce back, but the truth is that kids do not bouce back and they are affected. I has made me to look at each child more attentively and with a loving eye. I suggest that we all try to be Jesus to every child we know and not just talk about him.

Thanks for the reminder to keep our eyes and hearts open to the children in our lives, Tiffany. Their actions often speak much louder than their words about what is happening inside them. We must show compassion and patience and take the time to really hear them.
